Music Marketing Blog Post #1

To kick off the research process of my music marketing project, I first stuck to the basis. By doing this, my group and I began by searching up our music genre, which is punk rock. We explored what we saw online and began to brainstorm the image we wanted for our band. The images we saw online for punk rock consisted of many mohawks, leather, and overall an edgy and grungy vibe. Within our research, we additionally discovered that punk rock bands are a big fan of live concerts with a live audience. Lots of their concerts lead to intense mosh pits with everybody jumping up and down.

After getting to know our genre, my team and I began to combine it with the song we have. Our song is punk rock with slight undertones of a beachy background. Because of this, my team decided the music video should be filmed at the beach, which hopefully will take place. To further brainstorm for our project we created a storyboard to make a layout of how our music video will go. Our music video focuses on a girl and her friends being rebellious and then escaping off to the beach. A challenge we did encounter within this part of the project was being able to have everybody together to film and go to the beach. Luckily, a team member came up with a great solution. They asked their close friends to help and act in the video to be able to get footage at the beach.

The following images are of our storyboard:

Lastly, we needed to create a name for our band and a PowerPoint for our research. After lots of discussion for what name to choose, we agreed on the name Freight Patrol. Freight Patrol was chosen because it had an edgy sound to it which we were looking for. After agreeing on a name we created social media accounts to market our band on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok. Then, we choose a template for our PowerPoint that included lots of skulls that we felt fit with our punk theme. On the PowerPoint, we spoke about the history, distribution, and marketing of our genre and band.
